Insider Tips

We want to make sure that your time spent with us at Old Forge Camping Resort is relaxed and enjoyable. This page offers insider tips, from those in the know, to ensure you enjoy every moment of your Adirondack getaway.

For first timers…

  • Take advantage of Express Check-in! Call ahead with your payment in full and your license plate number and the whole check-in process will be so much quicker - you can get to your site and start relaxing sooner!
  • Avoid the crowds and visit Old Forge during the slow season. There's still plenty to do: hiking, canoeing/kayaking, biking, road trips, exploring the area, restaurants, museums, art galleries, sea plane rides, and more. Old Forge Camping Resort offers very attractive value season rates and package deals during these times.
  • Best kept secret - did you know Old Forge Camping Resort has fully stocked gift shop featuring a unique selection of Adirondack-themed gifts, decorations, lighting, and much more?
  • When purchasing firewood for your campfire, don't forget your fire starter logs or cups. They work much better than charcoal & lighter fluid AND are more environmentally friendly

Book ahead…

  • You may request a specific site number by making a Premium Reservation and we will guarantee the site of your choice for an additional non-refundable fee. If there is a maintenance issue with the site you have requested and we are unable to place you there, your Premium fee will be refunded and we will place you on a comparable site.
  • It’s wise to book in advance for 4th of July week (end) as accommodations tend to book full well in advance. You can make reservations 1 year in advance!

What to bring…

  • If you’re staying in a Cottage or Cabin: bring a blow up mattress (mattresses are included, but sometimes an extra one is even better), a toaster and a fan. Also, get ready for the best weekend ever.

  • Don't leave food out or you will have some furry uninvited guests! (Bears!) Please keep all food and drinks inside.
  • Use the online map to find a site to your liking: secluded, close to the lodge, on the lake, or close to a restroom facility.

Eating while here…

  • Order pizza from Calypso’s Cove. They deliver!
  • Take advantage of the Camper’s Café in the summer for breakfast and delicious donuts!
  • Plan your meals ahead! Pre-make and freeze some easy meals and put them in your cooler right before you leave. That way, they stay fresh, and they're easy to prepare right at your site!
  • Grab the family, pack lunch and head to the other side of the Private Lake Serene on the Nature Trail for a picnic! It's beautiful over there!

Play at the waterpark…

  • Take the shuttle bus to EFWS so you don't have to worry about parking! Be sure to check the shuttle bus schedule before heading over and plan accordingly – it will save you the time of waiting around for the next bus if you miss it by just a few minutes!
  • Definitely take advantage of the Siesta Savings Plan at Enchanted Forest Water Safari - enter the park after 3pm (2pm days they open at 10am) and get the next day free. Great way to enjoy the park for some extra time, especially since check-in time starts at 2pm – unpack your stuff, then head over to the park for the rest of the day!
